Edit: from the comments it looks like Gerband is way superior to Tesa and also from Germany.

Trivia: duct tape is terrible for ductwork, and never used by HVAC professionals. If you’re doing some home repair, search “hvac tape for ducts” to evaluate your options.

More trivia: It was originally called duck tape not duct tape because water rolled off its plastic coating like water off a ducks back. When it was introduced the alternatives were cloth tapes that were not water proof. So it should always be duck tape, even if one company has laid legal claim to that name. It’s kind of the reverse of the Band-Aid and Kleenex situation.

I agree that if you are buying duct tape (for ducting), do your research, and buy the good stuff(quality metal foil HVAC tape in 99%of cases), clean the surface, and remember to spend a little bit of time rubbing it to the surface. Tape adhesive is a PSA. Pressure Sensitive Adhesive sticks better the more pressure you put on it.

Old house I lived in previous owner wrapped duck tape around leaks in the ducts. When around and replaced it all with metal tape, 100x better airflow.

But Tesa gaffer tape is shit.

At least in a professional setting it is frowned upon because it leaves a lot of glue residue on floors and cables, which is a pain in the ass to clean.

Gerband is also German and the way better product, at least regarding gaffers tape.

And their packing tape snaps. I’m packing removal boxes and the boxes keep popping open because the stupid tape breaks constantly at the corners.

Don’t buy any of them. The absolute best is Gerband from Thomann. Sticks very well, but isn’t as nasty as Tesa. It’s made for events so it’s also easy to remove after a few days. Hands down my go-to tape. https://www.thomann.de/intl/gerband_gewebeband_258_schwarz.htm

This is the correct link:

It’s not /en/, it’s /intl/ for English.

I can vouche for the lineup of Würth Adhesive Tapes too

Wurth is a pain to buy in my country. They only sell directly to professionals, as in mechanics, tool shops, carpentries, etc, and don’t have shops open to walk in customers.

As long as Germany are helping Israel commit genocide I’ll be skipping them too. Up until now I ordered everything from there.

What are you doing here? Isn’t there some tankie instance you can lecture on how duct tape manufacturers commit genocide?

You obviously don’t know what a tankie is.

Apartheid South Africa didn’t escape its shackles by apathy. A global boycott helped end it, often led by citizens in spite of their governments and employers (see Ireland). But you’re free to continue spending your money indiscriminately.
