Seems like pretty much any marvel slop past the first few decent movies is just 90 minutes of “OMFG REFERENCE?! KIND SIR I WISH I COULD UPDOOT THIS MOVIE TWICE!!!” lol
Fellowship of the Ring
To clarify. I love the movie, but I also can’t escape the fact that like 90% of it became memed like crazy.
Spiderman no way home. Everyone was raving about it, when I finally got around to watching it, it turned out to be high-budget fanfiction.
Aren’t all adaptations “high-budget fanfiction” though? Like, what about the film makes it more fanfictiony compared to other comic or book adaptations?
sure, but it was fanfiction in the sense that the whole story is centered around fan service. It was mostly “hey, that character you like is back!” and “oh my god, the villain people like made an appearance for 3 minutes!”. It didn’t feel like its own movie, just a collection of “give the fans what they want” scenes.
Deadpool vs Wolverine. If fan service was a movie.
I was dragged to see this and was extremely confused because the last marvel film I saw was Revenge of Ultron
This film was referencing it’s own world too much it felt like sitting with a self-absorbed prick for a more than a couple of beers!
Agreed, didn’t make it through the opening scene before I went “Yup this wasn’t made for me click”
Ready Player One
They didn’t even understand the source material.
Like, when he pulls the holy hand grenade… There are VERY SPECIFIC instructions on how to use that thing. Doesn’t follow them.
Just superficial references with no comprehension of the source
