The move comes as the expo faces mounting concerns that construction, especially of pavilions for foreign nations, will not be completed on time for the scheduled opening in April 2025.

This expo is a mess no one in Osaka is all that interested in and also, the mascot for it, Myaku-Myaku, is a Lovecraftian horror.

Who the hell signed off on that? It looks like something a preschooler would draw and not in a cute way.

Now imagine that thing everywhere, including on multiple poster-sized digital ads in the subway stations and even on the fricking manhole covers.

That is… An interesting choice.

Why does the article assume that everyone knows what an osaka expo is. Shouldn’t they have at least one sentence summarizing what it is?

It’s just the next world expo. I’m not sure why a Japanese newspaper would explain what the Osaka Expo is, when it’s pretty much impossible over here to not see mentions of it fricking everywhere, or that horror show of a mascot?

…sorry, I live in Osaka and I’ve seen far too much of Myaku-Myaku on ads EVERYWHERE. It’s even on the damn manhole covers.

A lack of planning on your part doesn’t constitute an emergency on mine.

Though I kind of think Japanese grammar cannot express this thought and the closest you can get is Ganbatte!

Maybe your Japanese isn’t quite at the level you think it is.

In 2023 they ask for an exemption for something that should be delivered by 2025. Is it really bad planning or an attempt to save on labour cost?

Bad planning.

The expo is asking to allow construction workers to work longer hours to complete the expo on time. The hard cap on overtime is likely a safety issue.

Ugh safety. Why can’t people just die for the entertainment of the wealthy?

Is there a labor shortage in the construction industry? Because otherwise I’m pretty sure there’s enough time to hire more hands.
