This article is terrible, Maine has yellow flag laws, which is a much more constitutionally acceptable version of red flag laws. the family did what they were supposed to do, it seems likely (they won’t talk about it) that the cops once again won’t do their jobs and because of that even more people died.
We already have the laws needed to prevent the majority of mass shootings but unless we get better cops no law will meaningfully help and tyrants will use this as an excuse to just get rid of guns rather than maintain rights, not alienate half the country and actually solve the other underlying problems.

And look how effective they were. Oh, wait…
the family did what they were supposed to do, it seems likely (they won’t talk about it) that the cops once again won’t do their jobs and because of that even more people died.
Which is another example of specifically why these laws are doing exactly nothing to stop the problem. How do you figure out who’s too mentally unstable to own a gun before they commit a crime that shows they shouldn’t have had a gun in the first place? And who’s going to go to them and say “We know you haven’t committed a crime yet, but we’re here to take your guns away anyway.”? And how many times do we have to hear exactly what you yourself just said: “We told the authorities he was crazy, but they did nothing.”?

Then why do we still have more mass shootings in any given week than the rest of the world has in any given decade, combined?
but unless we get better cops no law will meaningfully help and tyrants will use this as an excuse to just get rid of guns rather than maintain rights, not alienate half the country and actually solve the other underlying problems.
Other countries have mental health issues too. Countries just as developed as the US. Just as much as we do. But they don’t have daily mass shootings. Golly gee, I wonder what the difference between the US and those countries is…I guess we’ll just never know,eh?
There is absolutely no reason why anyone needs a god damned AR-15 for “self defense”. And schoolchildren’s right to actually be able to make it home from school without turning into a bloody splattermark on the wall of a classroom shouldn’t be trumped because you think you need an AR15 for “target practice” or whatever excuse you come up with because you need your dick to feel a little bigger.
Anyone who sincerely thinks they need an AR-15 for “target practice”, “self-defense”, or to “protect our country” (leave that to the trained ones, please) is the perfect example of a person who actually shouldn’t have an AR-15 in the first place.
It’s amazing how much you have typed just to completely ignore the entire point of my argument. Please get some reading comprehension.
It’s amazing how you say that as if you read it all, but completely missed that they responded to every point you were trying to make.

European countries have lots and lots of very restrictive gun laws. And shootings are very, very rare.
Americans are not more mentally ill than Europeans. The obvious difference is access to weapons. Restrict the tools these killers use.

The issue being presented in the comment you replied to is that someone was supoosed to take the perpatrator’s firearms away because of their mental health issue. Nobody did. It doesn’t matter one bit if something is against the law if nobody enforces it.
My point is that the obvious difference is access to weapons in the US as compared to other countries. There are too many weapons floating around and they are too easy to gain access to. If he didn’t have access to weapons, he wouldn’t be able to use firearms in a mass shooting. No guns = no gun violence.
