It’s probably more stagnant/shrinking population that necessarily something explicitly wrong with it. It’s like a midsized city and what’s nearby are other midsized cities with probably similar population trends. Not close enough to NYC to be a commuter city. I think the usual pressures for housing prices are regional population growth or getting somehow becoming another city’s de facto suburb.
I went to college in Rochester and stayed for a total of about 15 years - the housing market didn’t crash in 2008 because it never was booming in the first place.
Now I’m in the Midwest with racist assholes and over priced homes. If it weren’t for the 9-10 months of non-stop overcast weather, I’d strongly consider moving back to Rochester and keep working remotely.

Also, that price, wow. That seems very cheap for the US, I thought houses over there routinely went up into the 7 figure range.
most of us don’t want to live in what looks like a mental health ward. i agree with the other poster who said the floor is the real problem. my childhood home was off white walls and a white ceiling in the main rooms but we had carpet, curtains, and doors that were different colors
Yeah, that’s what’s blowing my mind. I always thought their houses were way more expensive than ours.
It varies wildly by location. My grandma’s home is valued at like 600k~ and is a modest 3 bedroom home that was built in the 50s.
Oh no we’ve been in a bubble for decades tbh, shit’s overvalued to the extreme. I think gearing the market toward investment rather than home ownership has gone a long way to putting housing up on this financial pedestal. Fuck, $150k wouldn’t even get you a deposit on some places here
I like grey, but that shade of light gray is kind of an eyesore. Granted, I can barely afford my apartment in an “eehhhh” part of town.
The only thing I find offputting is the floor. I think grey and off-white are fine for walls. I find that strong colors on walls hurt my eyes and just give like almost a burn-in effect. I prefer off-white with just paintings and decorations, so really see not much wrong with this. The fact that it’s empty is really what stands out. Throw on a persian rug, a few paintings and some furniture and it’ll look fine.
Monochromatic? More like achromatic. Jesus.
