I hope they stay indie as long as possible. As long as they can make great games they won’t have any trouble getting contracted work such as BG3 if they want to while still being able to make creative projects on their own.
But I can understand if the owners at some point want to cash out for retirement as long as business is going well.
Somehow this company strikes me in the same way Valve does when it comes to independence. I think any sellout for exclusivity would somehow go against their desire to make great games for everyone. Hell, they made a freaking Mac version of BG3…AT LAUNCH! Who tf does that?
Steam deck compatibility at launch, and Xbox support coming eventually. I wouldn’t be surprised if they launched a cloud version for switch or a native version for the inevitable Switch 2. God I love Larian. They are a breath of fresh air in a world of exclusives, walled gardens, and half-baked developments. And the games they make are niche and best in class.
Please!!! More studios need to follow suite. Going public has been a death sentence for every game studio as far as relevancy. Eventually there will be too many large mediocre studios, the space is currently filled by EA and Ubisoft, but once more mediocre to terrible studios exist in that space there won’t be enough customers with low enough standards to buy their products.
Larian is bae.
