Anti-speech laws are spreading from states to Congress, and the future of online speech could hang in the balance
I think the current system works best
Parents should be responsible for what their kids do online. Parental controls do exist.
This is the most concerning thing I’ve read today. I don’t understand how we’ve reached this point. If people are concerned about the safety of their children then they need to be more attentive parents. This almost reminds me of that time Apple was going to scan everyone’s photos stored in iCloud in the name of “protecting children” but backed down due to public backlash. Except this somehow is codified into law and lays the roadmap out for other states to do the same. Government mandated online verification systems sounds like a cyberpunk fever dream but I guess the US is slowly working it’s way there.
Uhh just to clear up a misunderstanding, Apple and everyone else already scans your photos in the cloud and compares them to a pre-curated hash of known CSAM. What Apple was trying to do was do the scans on-device instead, for photos outbound to Apple’s iCloud. Supposedly, this was to make sure that your photos weren’t directly scanned by Apple themselves.
Reminder they give zero fucks about children. They want to spread fascism to the internet for everyone in the name of children, but they have zero issues with elementary schoolers getting gunned down and legalizing child labor. Party of small government btw.
