Wait, can artificial intelligence actually do this now?

Contrary to popular belief, AI is very stupid BUT it is really good at finding patterns, so it’s probably already been in use for location detection for quite some time.

Not just location detection, but also for facial recognition. Casinos immediately know who you are the second you set foot on the property. If you are banned from one casino, you are banned from all of them.

I mean it was made by people. It’s just that they can store information better.

Maybe.

But I’m pretty sure this was noticed the old fashioned way, with our own eyes.

There are some YouTube channels of people who are really good at that, usually the same people doing competitive GeoGuessr.

But yeah, skylines are really distinctive.

So why are you spreading her address instead of redacting the info

Except of course most of the view out of the window apart from the three circled buildings does not match up at all.

The three circled buildings are the furthest thing you can see out of that window, and in the pic in general, and the thing about far away big things is, you can move around a lot before their visual appearance will start to change noticably.

I see more. The girl’s perspective is further to the left.

If the drawing is an accurate copy of an original photo, then that original photo was probably taken from the left of this new photo. Not a few meters to the left, but dozens. (I’m ball parking it from my phone screen)

With 3 landmark recognition points, you have enough info to properly “triangulate” a 4th position, but that wasn’t done here, the angles are wrong.

  • The relative distance between the buildings matter, you have to know which is further away. If I’m wrong about which buildings are closer/further, then it could actually be to the right. A phone is probably not the best device for doing this kind of guesstimation.

The drawing is based on an actual place in Lyon, where the artist Juan Pablo Machado was living at the time.

Also, relative positions of circled buildings seems off, so I would say that this address is off by some distance making it another address

The story of how that background was created has been stated by the artist himself: he was studying in the quartier de la croix-rousse in Lyon, and incorporated it in the drawing using multiple reference pictures.

So while the neighborhood is recognizable, it is not a perfect match from any POV.

“24/7 lofi beats to study to” needs quotes or something, took me too long to understand that sentence
