FTA:
“SB 4: Removes regulatory barriers to allow churches, religious organizations and non-profit colleges to build affordable housing on their land.”
Aw, man. Rule of “unintended consequences”.
People want churches to be able to help with the homeless crisis… even odds will get you an explosion of cults with creepy dormitory style arrangements…
I am not sure you can prevent crazy people from being crazy, thats just going to be one unfortunate side affect of a well intentioned rule.
Dang, California is making a lot of real progress. Nice work.
AB 1136: Sets up a retirement fund for mixed-martial arts fighters in California. Any MMA fighters who have fought in at least 39 rounds in the state will be eligible for retirement benefits starting at the age of 50.
I mean, no one forced them to fight and get fucked up. Why can’t I start an MMA group that has “slapping only” and have a mass fight every day for people who just turned 50 so they can collect benefits early?
Love that they’re not allowing online stores from hiding fees until a final purchase page. It must be visible with the price of the good.
Makes it illegal for an employer to discriminate or penalize an employee based on the person’s use of cannabis off the job and away from the workplace. A similar law, SB 700, makes it illegal for an employer to ask a job applicant if they’ve used cannabis.
It’s too bad this won’t apply to anything governed by the DOT. Like driving trucks/busses.
I like basically every bill except maybe AB 645 so this is great news! Way better than my state Alabama lol.
So you don’t have to go back to the article to see:
AB 645: Allows six cities - Glendale, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Oakland, San Francisco and San Jose - to install speed cameras. The law requires cities to put up signage warning drivers they could get a ticket if they don’t slow down before approaching the speed camera.
