Israeli officials have accused Brazil’s president of antisemitism following his comparison of Israeli violence to that of the Nazis

“For a foreign ministry to address a head of state from a friendly country in this way is unusual and revolting. It is a shameful page in the history of Israel’s diplomacy,” the Brazilian diplomat went on to say, adding that Israel is trying to cover up its crimes in Gaza with a smokescreen

Accusing anyone who criticizes you of antisemitism just devalues the term. Which is really fucking stupid because there is a modern rise in anti semitism, but it goes way further back than the current genocide in Gaza and most (not all but most) of the antisemitism is tangential or unrelated to Israel.

Well, the comparison is quite bad. Unlike the Jewish people, Hamas did shoot first. However, Israels actions firmly cross into Genocide territory. So Genocide yes, Nazi Genocide no.

This ignores the long history of Israeli ethnic cleansing in the region.

No, it does not. As I said, I think the current events including the ongoing situation in the westbank and other fits the definition of a genocide. But it is thankfully still not the industrial-sized killing complex that was the Holocaust.

You can’t take the current situation out of the historical context. Not saying I agree with the idea that Israel is the same as Nazi but saying “Hamas did shoot first” is missing some crucial steps.
