So two-part question here:
If you’ve played Watch Dogs: Legion, did you like it?
And especially, did you like it for the story?
This makes me think the game is not primarily about the story: https://opencritic.com/game/7405/watch-dogs-legion
I played WD2 and enjoyed that quite a bit though never finished it.
I want the next game I play on my PC (via Steam, etc…) to have a great story. Recommendations greatly appreciated.
Other games I’ve played with what I thought were great stories: Psychnoauts 2, Portal 2, Soma (though I’m not really into scary games), Firewatch, Metro all, The Talos Principle
Cheers,
I played Watch Dogs Legion two years after its release and I doubt it has changed much since then, it was an unfinished mess without much story.
It had some fun elements, but it’s not comparable to wd2 or wd1. It’s like they ran out of money halfway through development and just released the game as is. If you really want to play it, wait until it’s on sale somewhere and don’t be disappointed, you were warned.
Cyberpunk 2077 has a great story if you’re into the cyberpunk genre. It’s got its own spin on a collection of really great cyberpunk stories rolled into one narrative. It’s the closest thing outside of the books themselves that makes one feel like they are in something written by William Gibson himself.
Ok. You said the magic words for me: William Gibson. I’m in.
No idea why I never made that connection in my own head before, but thanks!
I played it but it was just ok. It was mostly fun to mess around in for short periods, but most of the story missions were meh. The one about the AI designer’s house (Coming Home) was interesting though.
I really don’t know what kind of games you like, I love loooooooong RPG’s myself and can recommend Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous if you’re happy to invest a big chunk of your time. Just turn down the difficulty and enjoy the story if the stats are mind boggling (I know I did). Creating the character you want to be is so much more fun than worrying if you’re powerful enough to defeat the final boss.
The Pillars of Eternity games are also RPG’s who’s story I really enjoyed.
Oh, one more. I really enjoyed Roadwarden as well. But that’s more of a visual novel kind of game.
Mass Effect - I see there is a legendary edition with all the content bundled in one package
-
Mass effect 1: Is slow in the beginining, then opens up after the tutorial, although the secondary content feels like a grind one can find a lot of lore in between it all. Outside of the Golden path the environments and a lot of the combat feels samey, but the story really comes together well in the last moments
-
Mass effect 2 : The game is streamlined a lot, better environments and the character and crew stories steal the show and everything comes together in the ending again, although your choices are a lot more meaningful in the way the final mission plays out
-
Mass effect 3 : The culmination of the Mass Effect triology, even with the hits and misses the highs are high and the lows are low. The ending although improved on from what it came out with is serviceable now - although not going to harp and kick on that dead horse.
