He’s right, though - unless there are real legal repercussions or it’s an impossible task, just say “yes”. Worst case scenario, you’ll do a bad job of it and whoever requested your service won’t do it anymore.

also if there aren’t legal repercussions but you’re still endangering people by fucking it up, please don’t :)

Right. This is what I see in the quote. No one, in my entire life, has ever simply offered me an amazing opportunity. I’ve had to apply, interview, fight for that opportunity.

Who is getting opportunities handed to them they’re not qualified for? What world does this guy live in?

One where he’s sociable and learnt to get along with people. You’d be surprised how often it works.

I get it, but I hate it. It’s not in my nature to lie like that. I can “lie” for the sake of humor or something, like using misdirection or “acting,” but when it’s an honest situation I can’t help but be honest.

Not that I have opportunities tossed my way that often lol

I hate it but it’s how these things go. You only had a 3 week internship at school because that’s what your school does at the end of your semester as a requirement for graduating? That’s fine, on your resume that becomes “Spring 2024”, people don’t need to know it was only 3 weeks, they can think it was 3 months unless they explicitly ask you how long it was which they usually don’t. It helped me land my first dev job years ago, it sucks but it works.

Exactly. In jobs they will find out if you lied about possessing skillset they require, especially if it’s a critical one.

I can do it, but if it’s like a small lie. I know something similar, where the learning part is very small and I’m not lacking any core knowledge.

Fake it till ypu make it? :p

The amount of posts regarding “I have no idea how I landed in this position. Please help me” are in the double digits. for a recent timeframe.

Sure, fake it, but a small part. I’m not talking about lacking core knowledge.
