Donโ€™t worry, the bot will still respond and it will get 10,000 upvotes from other bots and replies like โ€œgrondโ€ and โ€œ15 years is 7889400 minutesโ€ and โ€œpass me the breastplate stretcher!โ€ and the one real person left on reddit will smile and think โ€œI love being part of such a large and thriving online communityโ€.

Thereโ€™s a short story by Ray Bradbury about an automated house that survives a nuclear blast. The shadows of the children throwing a ball are on the house outside, and inside the robots continue to service a family thatโ€™s no longer there. Thatโ€™s what it reminds me of.

Wow, what a coincidence. I was just there for in the museum for the first (and probably only) time in life and the next moment I open Lemmy, I read this.

No. I am willing to ignore a lot of idiotic crap on the internet. But no, you cannot compare literal lives lost to a stupid Reddit bot.

Create post

A โ€œShowerthoughtโ€ is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while youโ€™re doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. A showerthought should offer a unique perspective on an ordinary part of life.

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. Avoid politics
    • 3.1) NEW RULE as of 5 Nov 2024, trying it out
    • 3.2) Political posts often end up being circle jerks (not offering unique perspective) or enflaming (too much work for mods).
    • 3.3) Try c/politicaldiscussion, volunteer as a mod here, or start your own community.
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmyโ€™s Code of Conduct
