Out of all the books you’ve read in 2023, which are your favorites so far?
Top five would be most of the books I read this year, so it wouldn’t be very meaningful. I’ll go for top 2:
Tehanu by Ursula K Le Guin - fantasy, the fourth book of the Earthsea novels, dealing with gender discrimination.
The City and the City by China Mieville - not spoilering anything is hard. I’ll just say that it’s fantasy that feels like reality, you end up wondering if the City actually exists.
While being very different, they both leave you with an itch they don’t allow you to scratch. They give you a fantastical mirror to look at our own world together with some tough questions about what we accept and take for granted.
