Hi all, I was looking to buy RGB lights, particularly something like the Philips Hue Light bar.

Aside from it being very expensive, as far as I can tell the software used to control it isn’t open source.

I know OpenRGB exists but I’d prefer a manufacturer that supports open source software, if that exists. Any other recommendations welcome! Thanks

philips hue (and many others) use zigbee, which means you could set up a self hosted instance of something like home assistant and get a zigbee adapter. That way you can control the zigbee lights with open source and self hosted software, and you also have the option of keeping everything entirely local if privacy is a concern

You’ll want to look at z wave or ZigBee. Then control with home assistant.

Hue is I recall is ZigBee so you can control with home assistant.
