I mean, you couldn’t source a link to a tweet yourself and had to share a reddit post on reddit’s competing platform?
x is not open to non x users! So it is a no no
Plus using the competing platform bandwith is the better form of warfare anyway
Those are pretty good points. Still, you had to participate in Reddit in order to find that story.
The point is that news organizations, reporters, etc. need to start using fediverse platforms so we’re not stuck still using Xitter and Reddit. Moreover, a source from a reputable news outlet would be preferred over social media.
I post around 5-10 link per day to feed the fediverse, Some of them come from reddit. Actually , despite all the good intention the fediverse is a dead place compared to reddit. But dont worry, when I read something worthwhile here, I dont post it on reddit, I have no account there.
Incoming CIA sponsored coup/assassination.
She appears to be a Social Democrat, not a Socialist, so she should be safe as long as she plays ball with the US, rather than pushing back against US Imperialism.
Social democracy is a subsection inside the umbrella of Socialism. So she’s both.
It is not. Social Democracy is a subsection inside the umbrella of Liberalism.
Morena is a pretty solid party overall, and we should treat socdems in the global south differently from their counterparts in the imperial core.
AMLO for example is pushing hard against the US extradition of Julian Assange, even playing the the collateral murder video when some New York Times journalists started throwing shade. Morena also recognizes Palestine and is closing doors to Israel, against the wishes of the US.
Great to see the people of Mexico continuing to support Morena and reject liberalism, this is a great day.
Indeed, I don’t mean to downplay this day! Just to point out that I am hopeful that she can do some great work unhindered by US hostilities. Social Democracy in the Global South is fundamentally not based on Imperialism like in the Global North, I absolutely agree.
Guessing she’s still around because the cartels want her around. Not sure how good this is.
Probably the same reason the whole party is still around. It would be awesome to get a real input from someone who lives in Mexico (preferably a normal person and not a summer beach home/mansion owner who pretends to live like normal people do), but honestly don’t know how likely they are to lurk here on Lemmy…surely there is at least one among us?
My skepticism stems mostly from the “popularity” of former president, supposedly reaching some 80%? Sounds pretty good if it’s genuinely true, but it’s eerily approaching fabled 90-100% authoritarian levels.
She is a puppet of the current president, she was apponted by himself
That said, the opposition was also a woman but she was an unknown and 3 parties with different views allied to launch her as candidate
The party is projected to have qualified majority of the Congress and maybe senate so they’ll be able to do a bunch of stuff so that may be worrying
They have done a lot of good stuff but also they are full of corruption like cancelling a great airport that still needs to be paid and building a shitty one very far away that no one wants to use and that interferes with the operation of the other airport so it doesn’t really help with congestion
Sheinbaum is a climate scientist so I’m curious about who she’ll appoint to the energy commission because the current government is all-in on carbon
First question how is she a puppet. Second question, and the Congress, what might be worrying about it?
Mexican here.
As you say, Mexico is a bit divisive about her, many calling her just a mere puppet of current president López Obrador and worrying about her not doing that much when she was state governor.
And many of her claims about feminism, ecologism, pro-Palestina positioning, are a bit weird, in respect of her former position and the little things she did in regard those.
What worries me personally rn is that legislative power will also be at her mercy. If she wants to do any change to Constitution (as Lopez Obrador already had tried many times), little to nothing will be able to stop her. For better or for worse.
What’s that last part about she changing the constitution? How could no one be able to stop her?
She was selected and placed there as a mere puppet of current president amlo. México is indeed a narco governement but people who don’t actuallly experience it first hand living it every day think that this facade is true. She was married to a guy who was investigated for embezzlent but got off the hook because of political contacts. Her father was a chemist who owned a solvent factory (he has passed away and she inherited the business) with very sketchy practices regarding toxic waste management. Factory is still hers and it still operating under the same principles.
How the hell did Mexico get a Jewish president before the USA? We need to step up our game.
But also good on her and on Mexico. She sounds exactly like the sort of person I’d want running my country.
How the hell did Mexico get a Jewish president before the USA?
there just aren’t that many places as racist as the good ol USA man.
they also approved gay marriage and socialized medicine before we did & do
It’s interesting how ahead their government is with some things and behind it is with others (generally speaking they have a lot of crime in their larger cities).
It’s harder to take out crime when the organized crime is outfitted with similar gear to the army and the army is highly corrupt due to the cartel paying better.
America was fortunate that we were able to snuff out our organized crime before they had access to modern technology that made it near impossible to snuff out their movement.
It’s hard to arrest a group of cartel all at once if they never leave their heavily guarded fortresses for Sunday brunch like the mafia did
Same-sex marriage by two weeks (12 and 26 of June, 2015), so not exactly much.
More misinformation, eh? Really going all in with it, huh?
Marriage for same-sex couples nationwide was legalized by the Supreme Court of both countries: Mexico in August 2010, and the United States in June 2015.
As for socialized medicine, Mexico clearly has it, and the United States clearly does not.
they also had gay marriage … before we did
The US legalized gay marriage nationwide in 2015; Mexico didn’t achieve the same until 2022.

Mexico City had the world’s largest population of Jewish folks before Israel was created, iirc.
A person with good ideas that leaves their religion at the door would be swell right now. Religion only divides us into smaller, scarier groups. (See: Christian nationalism, women’s rights, the middle east, etc.)
That said, it is a damn shame Bernie didn’t have a fair chance.
i tought i heard somewhere about her being a fascist? what are her proposals for mexico, what you guys like about her?
i tought i heard somewhere about her being a fascist?
Without any background or context or evidence on that accusation, I am hesitant to accept “I thought I heard somewhere” .
Actual fascists and nazis have been projecting that accusation onto their opponents for a while now.
so is she fucking good or not? what are her proposals? what is your opinion? give me good context for someone who isnt a mexican and isnt following their elections then.
god, its so hard to know the actual opinions of people about politics on a lib instance.
Well fuckin’ teach me then!!
Lol. Seriously though, why do you feel so aggressively entitled to have others educate you? You’re clearly ignorant of the answers you’re looking for but you’re disrespecting others for your lack of knowledge. Idk, just something I noticed - your cross and whatnot
