Estoppel is a fantastic word.

The budget reconciliation bill has a line in it that will make regulating AI illegal for a decade. Presumably this will mean that if they cram AI into a product it gives it magical protection.

German makes so much more sense when you realize that it’s structured like super old-timey English.

I have cat allergies and still can’t help it. I’ve been forced to learn extremely good cleaning habits, as a plus.

Or maybe the AI just lies and says it changed the setting and then doesn’t. There’s a ‘delete my data’ button on reddit profiles that is literally a fake button, it wouldn’t even be a new tactic.

I think of conservatism as behaving kind of like an immune system. People who are conservative tend to be overly concerned with things like purity and group cohesion, and react negatively to anything unfamiliar unless you hold their hand and show them it’s ok. Sometimes this is a good thing for a society at large -helps maintain vigilance against external threats- but other times you get full-blown immune disorders, where the immune system can no longer distinguish an appropriate response from an excessive one, or a dangerous agent from a benign one, or starts to attack its own body.

I only recently pulled it off in my 30s, after I got tired of fretting about my teeth from getting my caffeine largely from diet soda. I’ve taken up black tea as well. The bitterness comes to be a pleasant sting, like the acidity of soda, which by contrast seems to taste more like acid to me all the time.
