I’ve relied on this mega thread for a long time.

Are there any tips to see check if VPN isn’t leaking anything when torrenting? Mullvad used to let you check with a magnet link they provided before they got rid of it.

Before you do that. Anyone ever done a GDPR request and seen what type of data is provided? Is it just comments and posts or some more extra user identifying details like ip addresses used and outbound clicks and so on?

I should probably check out mastodon too finally since I’ve made the plunge into lemmy already.

People are so brain dead that they think the only place to get answers on piracy is reddit. Even 4chan is better if they can’t be bothered to come here or raddle or any piracy forums that exist outside of reddit if they are left that clueless.

Should nuke the stuff on reddit, and give it back to them to figure it all out for themselves. They can have their sub if they want to talk piracy on reddit that much. Probably go about recommending piratebay to each other to download software and games.

That should be the way for every sub really. Just wipe and leave it unmoderated and tell the people who are whining to go mod it themselves now that it’s back open.

Whether pirates have wanted or not if they pirated long enough they have experience lot of things being killed off. Torrent sites they relied on dying and disappearing for good like rarbg. Recent reddit causality being r/newyuzupiracy. Direct links being killed off like megaupload. Discord channels dedicated to piracy or jailbreaking being banned and killed off (why isn’t stuff like matrix more common instead of hoping Discord ignores them?).

The constant search for new methods to piracy p2p, torrents, usenet, i2p, irc, discord bots, telegram bots, etc.

It’s not an area that has stability so pushes people to constantly be searching and finding new ways to pirate. Being on centralized places has always been borrowed time. Piracy in the long run always ends up having to search for a new home, better places, better methods. It’s a nomadic lifestyle in the digital space by the nature of it and the hostility towards pirates from those in power.

But, one thing that has remained a constant has been decentralization. With no better representation of that spirit than bittorrent. As long as a few people have it the source remains alive.

This is the type of guides I love. It is so thorough and educates people like me who are clueless on the process.

Some people here are saying i2p may be the future https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/259433 Sounds like Qbittorrent is planning to provide i2p support too. So hopefully port forwarding won’t matter as much for future releases.

Check the megathread on the side it has everything.

But, from what is recommended on there I have found torrentgalaxy coming close to rarbg.

Noticed there’s a lot of geeky people on lemmy, and so many seem to be using stuff like linux in threads asking what OS do you use. Which is definitely a big outlier from the average user. So seems like even if the numbers aren’t high that there’s a lot of people who can provide tech support to dumb people like me.
