Absolutely, I don’t miss 99% of reddit but I have to admit I miss the smaller communities. Most game subreddits I follow are small on reddit in the first place so none of them have moved elsewhere, most don’t even participate in the protests, the few that do just link to their discord instead. Many of these subreddits have devs commenting there as well so it’s not something that you can replace.
Uhm, hi? 😁
There are occasional issues depending on traffic but in my experience it generally works pretty well. Keep in mind that kbin has a slightly different syntax for adding completely new communities that nobody has subscribed to yet, it’s not !x@y but rather @x@y and it only works in search, not all communities, tab.
I’d also say that mastodon is hurt by the lack of the “algorithm”. I know it was perceived as a very bad thing on twitter since it was seemingly pushing their own agenda and ads, which is probably true - but not having anything like that on mastodon just means that your feed is a random jumble of everyone’s thoughts or discussions overshadowing actually interesting/popular posts. A middle ground would be nice to have.
Beans! Especially stew with them, you can throw in pretty much anything (veggies, meat, adjust your spice levels…) and once you learn the correct balance it’s very tasty and filling.
Sure, but I don’t think beehaw’s philosophy suits the fediverse very well.
And what exactly is “fediverse philosophy” according to you? You should probably define that first before saying something like this and see if other people actually agree with it.
I think beehaw’s policy is frankly the only one that makes sense for a fediverse - after all, the more freedom there is on the platform, the more work there has to be put in to maintain the high quality of content and users without getting overrun by trolls, extremists and bad faith actors. I wish other instances were as rigorous when it comes to moderation and user curation otherwise it’s just a matter of time before this becomes more like 4chan than what it is rn.
Anyone got a different site covering this? This site’s HTTPS certificate is invalid or sth which doesn’t inspire confidence
I had to unfollow most generic hashtags because it was just random people talking about anything and using the tags, often in foreign language, or it was some personal stuff I don’t care about. It really gave me a bad first impression since it made mastodon look more like facebook or sth where people dump their personal stuff online, rather than a valid news source.
I’d instead recommend just following news or publications or groups that actually curate their content.
