There’s a pattern of brewing menace on a Friday afternoon only to downplay them on Monday. Or it’s just me reading too much out of this chaos?
There is multiple levels of problem from Quebec point of view. Quick delivery paid by Prime without Quebec infrastructure won’t happen. Why pay for it? General boycott of companies that a) pay taxes in the US and b) show support for the current US administration. Any money that’s not spent developing Canadian infrastructure is a problem with our sovereignty challenge.
Wallmart as most of the same issues. Shopify need his CEO to stop encouraging Trump, but sometimes it allow local business to sell directly to you. I would be interested in what works for you in term of alternatives.
I challenge every newbies to create 1-3 posts over the first 72 h here : what do you enjoy in social media usually? It doesn’t have to be perfectly new if it’s new on Lemmy: your favourite Reddit group isn’t represented here or silent for a while : show us a glimpse of what you like and see how much engagement you receive.

Step one : do some activity where you genuinely want to be there involved in that activity. You will meet new people there, it can’t happen if you stay home inactive. You are happy with your own person at this point.
Step two : be kind towards everyone there and show interest to new people with a curiosity state of mind. Talk to people, not only people of direct romantic interest…
Step three : “i had fun spending time with you tonight, is there a way for me to text you to do something together soon?”
Step four : most of the time, when you text to invite you use the word date only once, but it need to be there. She will notice and register that you don’t aim for platonic.
Step five : its out of your control, if there is reciprocal interest you will feel things moving, if it’s not moving over 8-10 dates you need to check within yourself if it’s the relationship you want and discuss the divergence with her. At that point every couple is different, you build the style of communication that will characterize your relationship going forward in this early phase. Let her bring the sex topic first, or most of it.
Dating app will push you just a bit faster to 3-4, but you are doing every step before that through your phone with artificial/imperfect feedback.

I despise everyone that want to appease the US. Since they can’t respect their own signature there is no point in negotiating especially if it weaken our sovereignty and push us to be more dependent on our oppressor. Lets put the 30 % of our gdp in jeopardy and build better trade with Europe and developed Asia. Who knows, maybe the US will pay for some missions critical import anyway and doing so shorten the trade war. I am not pushing to do anything rash but expelling diplomats until the 51st state bullshit stop seems necessary before March 1st.

Canada will be picked on by the US anyway, we might as well defend our value. I don’t propose explicitly antagonizing the US administration directly today, but showing that we will speak up and fight back if someone step on our toes and act against our internet. Kindness and politeness isn’t a weakness, it’s our way of exhibiting strength until we can’t resolve things politely.
There isn’t room for multiple social media in my life and i will try with only Lemmy for a few months. I did came from r/BuyCanadian with curiosity more than the US boycott in mind. I plead guilty!
