To be fair, religion has never been about a book - it’s a cultural practice. The idea that Christianity is just what’s written in the Bible is a very modern secular view.

So it doesn’t surprise me that radical religious groups have “weird” interpretations of holy texts, because that’s the way it’s always been. In the past, though, the Pope would dictate religious doctrine; maybe western Conservative media has taken that role for the new far right.

From my experience, DEI is not about making racist people not racist, or sexist people not sexist. It’s about making people from varying backgrounds feel welcome, and making sure people don’t feel isolated if they’re different.
