The biggest problem I’m aware of is that the lead developers of Lemmy the software are also the administrators of Lemmygrad. Which makes separating the art from the artist very difficult.
Considering I won’t be able to actually get it into the bank account on time because of KYC, the best thing I can do is to purchase the closest convenience store that is next to my house - I don’t think the dude will reject a transaction in cash
I wish that all federated software had an easy way to migrate your user, with all and posts, to another server whenever required. That way you’d be able to jump ship elsewhere if you disagree with your current admin’s defederation policies. Mastodon is really dragging the feet on that one, and both Lemmy and Kbin don’t even allow exporting your list of subscriptions yet.
I’m so used to people bullying me during school and high school, that I feel wrong when strangers do not immediately begin loathing my presence.
Imagine if we end up being used for PeerTube content farms instead
About the only two major places on the Internet that explicitly give permission to reuse their users’ content are Wikipedia and Stack Overflow. Add the public domain texts in Project Gutenberg and that’s about it, the rest of the Social Media requires consent from the user to be reused elsewhere. This is the crux of the problem, CEOs just taking data indiscriminately from the Internet just because it’s indexable by Google.
A mute would be fine - let users interact with their instances IF they want to, and at their own risk, but otherwise don’t recommend them and don’t share information with them.
Hello to the Fediverse! Hopefully you can also enjoy the rest of the sites such as Kbin, Pixelfed, Peertube, Owncast and Misskey - there’s plenty to choose from!
