The bigger obstacle, of course, for Google is that Messages and RCS exists. I don’t think the company has ever laid out the difference between the two products or when you’d use one over the other.
And, yet again, we see the launch of another Google product that will shut it’s doors soon.
Yeah, their Google Photos free forever stunt put me off Google services. These days, I’ve taken my contact, and calendar syncing on a self-hosted Nextcloud instance. My notes have shifted from Google to Nextcloud Notes. For Photos, Nextcloud Photos is unfortunately not up to par, so I have a Photoprism instance set up to provide the same functionality, but under my control.
If at all possible, you should definitely give Nextcloud a try!
Finally! Being forced to use Google Voice on Android Auto has driven me crazy, I’ll be honest.
I don’t have Android Auto in my car, but I’ve used it on my mates cars. It’s…nice, but I prefer something with physical buttons that provide tactile feedback.
Most of the Android Auto or Apple CarPlay units I’ve interacted with are pretty underpowered and the voice interface doesn’t even work like it’s meant to.
On Monday, Google introduced a new feature called Perspectives, which will surface discussion forums and videos from social media platforms like TikTok, YouTube, Reddit and Quora.
Brave Search has something similar (very close to Google Knowledge cards implementation) and I just skip past that section because I’m sure I can get better context for the answer by just reading the post in its entirety.
