I was trying to think of which games created certain mechanics that became popular and copied by future games in the industry.
The most famous one that comes to my mind is Assassinโs Creed, with the tower climbing for map information.
I never understood this for first-person shooters. You canโt walk forward and backward at the same time, so I donโt see why being able to press the forward and backward movement keys at the same time would be useful at all.
Top down games with 8+ directions of movement itโs great, though.
