the idea that no modern society has not functioned without police is absurd, plenty of European nations did not have a formalized police force until the 1900s, maybe they dont consider the 1800s ‘modern’ but i certainly do, all the formal class relations of today were cemented then. i also dont necessarily agree with a complete abolition of the idea of police, but i do agree with the complete abolition of the american police. its also a little interesting how muddled this idea has become because originally america did not have a police force, they had slave patrols which morphed into the present day police force.

also i fucking hate seeing trans people on /r/neoliberal, go talk to more of our community jesus christ

They don’t actually know shit about history, so think that “modern” is the same as “contemporary”, in the same way they know nothing about sociology so ignore non-nation-states like ziggurter pointed out.

Also, it is a very intentional choice to ignore non-nation-state societies. Which is no surprise. It’s part of the liberal strategy to pretend you cannot have human society without a violently oppressive institution dictating 99% of your living conditions and aiming them all toward the support and protection of capitalism.

It’s almost a tautology, in a world where capitalism is globally ubiquitous: I’m going to ignore societies that don’t have police in order to pretend that societies cannot exist without the police.
