Following the announcement on Wednesday, the new real-time Scam Detection is rolling out to the Phone by Google app beta on Pixel.
what are they scanning, your conversation?
I imagine they have a MASSIVE database of numbers that make calls in certain patterns. If a new number makes 10,000 calls that had been dormant, it gets flagged.
I will only be impressed when Google forwards said scam caller to AI Alzheimerβs Granny and wastes all their time. Only then will I applaud. It is past time to fight back.
Stop wasting time on useless features, Google, and give us back call recording.
Telecoms need to do it at the network level. You can effectively DDOS someone by a system that calls or texts them
They do, just for some reason not effectively. Like, blocking the VoIP providers that allow scammers would dry all that up.
Weird thing is, this just drives more people to not use voice calls. Theyβre killing their own racket. (Although long-term, likely phones will be all IP with no carrier-managed services.)
Carrion by the Divest team works pretty well as a FOSS spam blocking solution in my experience. Another factor is I changed my number a few years back and I dont give it out to anyone unless necessary. I bought a βfreeβ Sim from a company called FreedomPop for when I need to give out a number and I dont want to share my real number. I keep the Sim off Unless I need a verification text.
