I mean I get it’s annoying. I also think “carnivore diet” is just a dumb grift like “raw milk” or whatever. But I don’t think you have a right to complain here. Someone created a community for people following this diet, it’s obvious they will ban anyone like you who is vocally opposed to the diet.

Raw milk is worse because of the bird flu risk. Some dumbass is gonna drink tainted milk, get sick, and the virus will eventually evolve to better infect humans in ways that hurt us.

A carnivore diet just harms themselves and the animals they’re eating. But raw milk has the potential to cause/accelerate another pandemic.

I’ve been a lifelong vegetarian however the vegans do have a point… what other mammal goes out of their way to drink other mammals milk?! I mean there’s some fringe cases of different species adopting each other and weaning but usually humans are involved in that.

I did not comment on their community, I just downvoted.

This almost makes it worse tbh. You’re not even trying to interact or provide anything of value to the community, you’re just going in to downvote.

Going into a club just to go around showing everyone a thumbs down is being an ass tbh. I can’t say whether there’s a rule against it, but it’s not behaviour that’s helpful for anyone.

For stuff that shows up in your All feed, you can downvote the post to keep it out of others’ feeds. If such posts appear too much you can block and move on. The mods have just done the latter for you.

Yeah nah you’re in the wrong here. Report to admins, block the community and move on.

As stupid as this is, it’s not up to you what is a “dangerous diet” and going to an entire community you disagree with just to downvote everything is petty and childish. Just block it instead.

Doctors have recommended against it. God the anti-vaxxers are bridgading Lemmy now.

We need to challenge dangerous misinformation on the internet and not let it spread uncontested.

If you want to downvote a whole community fine. But it’s kind of absurd to then complain about getting banned lol.

God I’m can’t believe people are defending a carnivore community, despite the fact humans need to eat vegetables.

People were attacking the user beaver for banning downvoters on https://lemmy.sdf.org/post/22273342 yet here before are defending jet 🤦‍♀️ when the carnivore diet will block your arteries.

You hear that @wesker@lemmy.sdf.org, you can’t complain if you get banned from a community for simply downvoting.

The also recommend against vegan diets. Does that mean we should go to vegan communities and harass them?

The difference is there are numerous studies that support the plant-based diet.

YDI. report dangerous content (which i agree this is) to admins for moderation or defederation.

but blanket downvote trolling is a real issue that any community mods should be allowed to address.

People downvote the posts on !linuxsucks@lemmy.world all the time.

So it’s only wrong if !vegan@lemmy.world does it now? But not a dangerous diet that increases the chance of heart disease, cancers and nutrient deficiencies.

!linuxsucks moderators should be allowed to act on blanket downvoting behavior if they so choose.

i don’t think i said anything about !vegan but they should be allowed to also, if they want.*

*edit: okay maybe i am remembering the situation you are talking about?

where some community was banning every user who did even one downvote, thereby exploiting lemmy’s sorting algorithm and getting all their posts to !all. that’s a different thing from dealing with blanket downvotes and fair to criticize in my opinion

On top of that, !vegan@lemmy.world was on LW, who had to update their rules to ban “harmful behaviour”.

Interestingly enough, lemm.ee doesn’t have such rule, so it’s okay for this mod to do so. !vegan@vegantheoryclub.org could also ban people who downvote, nobody would see that as powertripping, they do what they want on their instance.

Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

!yepowertrippinbastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com

Create post

This is a community in the spirit of “Am I The Asshole” where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Rules

  • Post only about bans or other sanctions from mod(s).
  • Provide the cause of the sanction (e.g. the text of the comment).
  • Provide the reason given by the mods for the sanction.
  • Don’t use private communications to prove your point. We can’t verify them and they can be faked easily.
  • Don’t deobfuscate mod names from the modlog with admin powers.
  • Don’t harass mods or brigade comms. Don’t word your posts in a way that would trigger such harassment and brigades.
  • Do not downvote posts if you think they deserved it. Use the comment votes (see below) for that.
  • You can post about power trippin’ in any social media, not just lemmy. Feel free to post about reddit or a forum etc.

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance’s code of conduct. In other words we won’t allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

Some acronyms you might see.

  • PTB - Power-Tripping Bastard: The commenter agrees with you this was a PTB mod.
  • YDI - You Deserved It: The commenter thinks you deserved that mod action.
  • BPR - Bait-Provoked Reaction: That mod probably overreacted in charged situation, or due to being baited.
  • CLM - Clueless mod: The mod probably just doesn’t understand how their software works.
