I’m in the beginning stages of planning a trip this winter to see the northern lights. The days are getting real short and I’d love to take advantage of that.
I’m currently in southern Ontario and would like to head north a bit to get away from all the light pollution. I’ll also be travelling alone so heading off to a park is probably not a wise decision for myself. Also, since I’m going alone, I’d prefer staying at a hostel where I have a chance to meet people but that’s not a strict requirement. I know hostels are not a big thing here.
Any information, tips or experiences to share would be greatly appreciated.
My friend spent a weekend in Churchill, Manitoba. Your chances of seeing Aurora Borealis are pretty high there. They have a nice tourism town around it, so you’re not off in the woods alone. She really enjoyed her stay.

There used to be a hostel there within the last 10 years when I last looked into a trip like this. It appears to have shut down now. Couldn’t remember the name of the town so I’m glad you mentioned it right away.
Not an easy place to get to but if I can make it work, I may go there.
A bit crazy to see it’s either a 20 hour flight or a four day train ride though. It’s a good thing I enjoy an adventure.
Can I ask how you got to Churchill? It’s a trip I’ve always wanted to do but I’m not sure of the best way to get there.
