At least they didn’t abandon it. The game was great on PC(v1.4, v1.6) apart from some minor bugs(NOT game breaking bugs).

It doesn’t change the fact that they over promised and under delivered and still raked in pre orders.

Until consumers figure out how to be patient, this is a trend in gaming that is going to continue. To NOT criticize it at every opportunity is doing yourself and every other gaming enthusiast a huge disservice.

That’s why I always buy after release and usually wait for some discounts. But I plan to buy BG3 even if it’s not discounted at the winter sale but I think it is pretty obvious that this game is pretty good already.

As long as some youtuber with a broom-handle-up-his-ass expression in the thumbnail keeps promoting day 1 games to increase FOMO, people will continue to preorder AAA games that they mass produce.

It was a good game, just it fell well short of expectations. When you compare the little systems that contribute to games by R* like rdr2 / gta5 feeling so detailed and alive, it felt a bit barren, despite all the gorgeous backdrop and cool abilities.

“mile wide, inch deep” would be how I described it. The story was excellent but the gameplay loop imo needed some work.

Have you played the new version / dlc yet (I’ve not so pls no spoilery spoilers)?

In fairness, I hated rdr2 and don’t really like the gta games because they’re a bit too much “violent life simulator” vs “game” for me.

As such, the only thing I hated about CP2077 was the bugs, crashes, and balance issues. Admittedly, I loved how cheap I got it because I bought it during the early reputation crash. It was unplayable for a few weeks, but for $17? Damn.

Personally I really enjoy it. Phantom liberty (and the patch to the normal game) adds a new area that is basically a microcity in itself, with a really fun side story that even adds additional endings to the main game.

No story spoilers ahead:

The update also brings a lot of randomized content that helps making the city feel much more lively, for example you will encounter random gang shootouts or car chases, or if you pick on one gang enough they will hunt you down as well. The police is a lot more dangerous, and continued resistance will eventually earn you a visit from maxtac. They also got the city transit system working, you can ride by train from a to b if you want while enjoying the view.

Also, assuming you didn’t play at all since the 2.0 overhaul, they completely reworked the talent trees and skill paths, making them much more distinct and all around fun to play with. The loot and difficulty system is also overhauled, and will mostly scale to your level regardless of where you are in the story, giving much more freedom in what you want to do and when.

Then there is vehicle combat of course, with a wide range of armed vehicles to obtain, which is also pretty fun and useful.

Generally it feels much closer to what was promised. It might not be perfect, but it is in a fantastic state in my opinion, the only thing I really miss at this point is the holy grail of third person camera (with a working player model).

I am planning on playing the DLC and probably replay the full story. Yeah apart from main and side missions the world is dead. Haven’t used mods but I doubt the open world will get any better or more enjoyable.

It was a solid 7/10 at launch and a clear 10/10 in the state it is in today. The new additions are fantastic and complete the experience imo.

No it’s not. I mean I like the game that it is and even had fun at launch but I will always be a little salty that it will never be what they said it would be.

I did a complete playthrough on release and still had fun. The game is still buggy, but it’s definitely better than it was and I’ve had a good time on my second playthrough.

Did they ever add in true branching storylines? That was one of the big claims, and those I’ve talked to say it’s essentially linear with some choices that have limited impact.

Fans must feel honored for the chance to beta test the game for a year after paying 60 for it.

Should they have all worked more crunch time instead?

permalink

No. They should not have released an unfinished game. You know, the game they advertised and sold to people before release.

permalink

Exactly. If they released it this year, it could’ve contended for game of the year. Instead, it released in a buggy, unfinished state.

Release games when they’re done, not when some exec or marketing person says it should release.

If my years in a technical field have taught me anything, it’s that this half-cooked shit sandwich was made by people in sales and management who were all promoted for making the shareholders happy. It’s always up to the engineers to slap some shit together that they just learned about yesterday and was needed last week.

If you like shooters and cyberpunk stories: Yes.

The shooting is great, the world is cool as fuck to explore, and the story is on point for the genre.

If you don’t like shooters or cyberpunk/sci-fi as a genre it probably won’t change your mind. The gameplay isn’t mind-blowing; it’s pretty average though the combat somewhat reminds me of Dishonored except without teleportation and time manipulation other than bullet time. The story is mostly well-written, but there’s one jarring plot hole about half-way through the main story, and the pacing is a little weird when it comes to interacting with Johnny because of the open-world nature; the dialogue, though, is good throughout.

As an RPG it’s very light. You have choices, and they matter and some of those choices you make by leaving dialogue and just doing something (like shooting a machine or just leaving the area). But you don’t get these all the time, and when you do you have like 3 or 4 options. The skill tree is big, but it’s also a mess (even now after it’s been reworked twice.) I always find myself overwhelmed by how many options there are, but underwhelmed by what they actually give.

I went in completely blind, knowing just the name and it’s a future shooter. It’s cool, I did side quests as they became available (ignoring storyline) and I think that’s the best way to do it, vs story first then side.

I’m disabled so played with a mouse only (kb for menus etc). I had a good time start to finish, and I only fucked up one side-quests (kinda mission design, kinda being an idiot). I haven’t played in a couple years, want to see what the new content is, just been hooked on other games.

I know the game “fell short” of hype but idc because I was interested and very very intentionally ignored all the hype bullshit. I feel I got my money’s worth, and enjoyed everything so far (story complete, all side as of 2y ago).

I thought the game was dull, characters was dull, voice acting was dull, not interesting story, Keanu was annoying. 4/10. Tried playing again after the new patch, and remembered the game was boring after 5 min.

To me it looks good and has a few fun quests or sidequests. But overall i found it pretty boring. The driving is garbage, enemies are bullet sponges and once you get some upgrades there isn’t even a point in fighting them anymore.

I liked the gameplay and environmental of Watch_Dogs 2 more (edit: on the latter, it’s about how lively WD2 felt compared to 2077), but Cyberpunk 2077 is still solid. As someone else said, there’s replay value to the different routes you can take. I’d definitely wait for the base game to go on sale though. I got mine for £25 and I think that’s an alright price for it.
