This is the best summary I could come up with:

The Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday condemned pro-Palestinian protests at universities in the United States as “horrific”, saying the demonstrations “have to be stopped”, as he categorized students as antisemitic.

There’s been rising tensions at campuses across the US as demonstrations began last week after students at Columbia set up encampments calling for the university to divest from weapons manufacturers with ties to Israel.

The protests have led to mass suspensions and arrests of hundreds students in New York, Texas and California.

“What’s happening in America’s college campuses is horrific,” Netanyahu said in a statement, echoing concerns voiced primarily by supporters of Israel over the safety of Israeli or Jewish students and faculty as the protests intensify.

Universities have become the focus of intense cultural debate in the US since Hamas’s 7 October attack and Israel’s overwhelming military response, as a humanitarian crisis grips Gaza.

The Hamas attacks in Israel which triggered the war killed about 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and 250 were taken as hostages, according to Israeli sources.

I have zero fucking tolerance for the Isreali government’s continued erosion of the term anti-semitism. There is real awful antisemitism out there and fucks like Netanyahu and AIPAC are making it more difficult to call out.

The lowbrow hypocrisy of that guy is palpable. Does he not recognize that the protests he calls “horrific” and says “have to be stopped” are only there to try and stop his horrific anti-Palestine child killing spree? The protests are not spawned from anti-semitism, but from anti-genocide and anti-Netanyahuism. I realize he likely only said it as a poor attempt at political spin, but I hope he knows on some level that the true horrific situation is the one he has created in Gaza, and that he is the one who must be stopped. Unfortunately, he probably wouldn’t care even if he knew.

His party (Likud) is the successor of Tnuat Haherut, or “freedom party”.

A party many prominent American Jews at the time called Nazis. (And was associated with the paramilitary leadership that instigated the Nakbah.)

He’d probably call Einstein antisemitic for that.

The doozies, but do read the full letter.

Among- the most disturbing political phenomena of our time is the emergence in the newly created state of Israel of the “Freedom Party” (Tnuat Haherut), a political party closely akin in its organization, methods, political philosophy and social appeal to the Nazi and Fascist parties. It was formed out of the membership and [following]* of the former Irgun Zvai Leumi, a terrorist, right-wing, [chauvinistic]* organization In Palestine.

*my corrections, the copy and past failed because the document is barely legible.

The public avowals of Begin’s party are no guide whatever to its actual character. Today they speak of freedom, democracy and anti-imperialism, whereas until recently they openly preached the doctrine of the Fascist state. It is in its actions that the terrorist party betrays its real character; from its past actions we can judge what it may be expected to do in the future.

Within the Jewish community they have preached an admixture of ultranationalism, religious mysticism, and racial superiority. Like other Fascist parties they have been used to break strikes, and have themselves pressed for the destruction of free trade unions. In their stead they have proposed corporate unions on the Italian Fascist model.

Sound familiar?

This is the same thing that happens everywhere.

You get a movement, the movement attracts crazies, the crazies get the attention and fuck everything up.

Let le be clear, there is real antisemitism at some of these events.

We have seen the videos and cant deny some nasty shit is being said, but it isn’t the majority.

It does need to be stopped though.

I have real trouble with how the media one sides this whole thing in Israel’s favour.

Where is the reporting on what is being said at Israeli protests? I’m sure there is also some vile shit going on there, but the media doesn’t dare to report negatively on Israel with the same rabid fervour they do Palestine.

For context, the level of casually accepted Islamophobia and Jewish supremacy in pro-israel events, or hell straight up genocidal mania (“Māwet lā-Arāvīm” chants) in Israel itself, is not as fringe as the few actually incidents of actual Anti-semitism.

I know that two wrongs don’t make a right, but if we accept that passions run high and people might get carried away, let’s at least have a consistent framing.

Honest question; what are some examples of antisemitism at these protests?

Rules:

  • Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:

    • Post news articles only
    • Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
    • Title must match the article headline
    • Not United States Internal News
    • Recent (Past 30 Days)
    • Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
  • Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think “Is this fair use?”, it probably isn’t. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.

  • Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.

  • Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.

  • Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19

  • Rule 5: Keep it civil. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.

Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to “Mom! He’s bugging me!” and “I’m not touching you!” Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.

  • Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.

  • Rule 7: We didn’t USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you’re posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.
