This guy’s yt channel just makes me cringe whenever I see his videos pop up on my feed. It’s just shameless conspicuous consumption. He’s by no means the only one, but he’s one of the few faces I immediately associate with it.

The first video I watched by him was a curveball for the ages. It was this one: https://youtube.com/watch?v=7DFNyivh9uE&pp=ygUVbXJ3aG9zZXRoZWJvc3MgaGVhbHRo

It’s about his health worsening. He first talks about how his Youtuber lifestyle is adversely affecting his health. After talking about this for a good while he pivots into using a bunch of expensive gadgets to help improve his health. I thought he would talk about making fewer videos or incorporating exercise but it turned out to be another hyperconsumerist gadget porn video.

Never seen this guy before but like you said there are many others like MKBHD and Unbox Therapy.
I’m not a fan of this stuff either.

Totally! A few years ago I ate all this garbage up like it was nothing. I loved watching his videos and often found myself being hyped over some new product just after watching his videos, it was fckn crazy. It’s disgusting and soulless and everything’s just so flashy, exciting and funny in his vids. Look, I bought even more metric tons of stuff I won’t ever need, do the same! 16.1 million ppl seem to like that… Of course there’s even more content creators like him, which makes this even more sad, but I also feel like he’s the flashiest and most significant one, for me it felt so at least.

Why are we giving this guy more views?

What’s wrong with showing just how absurd consumerism is?

Because it’s not just showing how absurd consumerism is, but rather these types of videos perpetuate consumerism.
