From the article …

“Without these standards of decency and morality, this planet may rapidly descend into anarchy, never-ending wars, and barbarism.”

AKA, “the center will not hold”.

I want to live in the alternate timeline, with President Sanders.

Sanders is doing right now, exactly the right thing. Its the thing Biden should be doing but is seemingly incapable of. Its being on the right side of history as history is happening and not accepting some fatalistic inevitability about the future.

Heard on the news today that Biden said that it is not genocide in Gaza. He really wants to lose I guess.

I voted, donated, and knocked on doors for Sanders. He should be our president not the fucking lesser evil Biden.

I’m still going to vote for Biden. He is wrong on the Gaza situation, though has made strides elsewhere.

Unfortunately it is also either him or possibly THE Idiot Savant. Would prefer ol’ Bernie, even today.

Literally today.

The close friend of Scalia’s who opposed worker’s rights, indigenous rights, and held up the constitutionality of solitary confinement? The one who prioritized her ego over not giving Trump an extra SCOTUS pick?

I have my criticisms of Bernie, but I would never put him in that category.

Senate vacancies are voted in by citizens, but yes, RBG opened the doors for women and Amy Coney Barrett immediately began to close them all behind her.

Imagine if the DNC and liberal media apparatus had supported his presidential campaign instead of doing everything they could to kneecap it.

Really was a massive mistake to push Clinton and the pied piper strategy.

Sanders has historically been Israel-friendly. This heel-turn has been the result of enormous public pressure from his leftist base.

Its possible that a President Sanders would have been equally receptive to shifts in public attitude towards Israel. But I wager that his willingness to bend towards popular sentiment is precisely the reason the DNC / Liberal Media won’t back him. They want their Bush / McCain / Biden stubborn conservatism, because its better for fundraising among elites and feeds into the DC Media idea of “integrity”.

You have to remember that “populism” has become a dirty word in American politics, particularly among DC elites. Its very much Us-versus-Them for the insider class. Caving to “Them” is seen as a sign of weakness and betrayal.

Really was a massive mistake to push Clinton and the pied piper strategy.

It worked in so far as it got us to Biden, eventually. Neoliberals were willing to suffer 4 years of reactionary social politics to cement their economic gains. And they’ll be willing to do it again in November, if it means “Biden was too much of a leftist” is the message ingrained on people’s brains when he loses.

If that’s the take away from a Biden loss then totalitarianism really is inevitable in this country because it would indicate that the only party in a position to resist fascism, has refused to ever do so.

I suppose we’ll see, though you’d never catch me betting against neoliberal stupidity.

Real Weimer Republic Hours. The Friekorps will drag Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht out back and shoot them, for organizing students in a protest against the state. But they can only ever managed to deliver a slap on the wrist to a young German officer and Beer Hall afficianado, before annointing him Chancellor in an electoral wave year.

you’d never catch me betting against neoliberal stupidity

The US has been running on fumes since the 2008 financial crash. Even if Biden manages to eek out another 40,000 vote win-margin by November, he’s stuck with a Congress that hates him and an economy that’s powered entirely by magic beans. That means we get another Trump/Trump-adjacent candidate in 2028 and 2032 and 2036 and…

I think it’s possible to be both a Zionist (Zionist-lite?) AND opposed to mass murder and genocide… including that of the native Palestinian population.

Given the history of Zionism as a nation-building policy, I think it would be very hard to divorce the existence of a Jewish Majority state from the methods by which that Jewish Majority is secured. You’d have about as much luck trying to justify right-of-return for Afrikaner Boers or Japanese Imperialists or Oklahoma Sooners. The goals of the state are inseparable from the methods they used to mark their claim and secure their ethnic majority.

A native Palestinian population is a threat to an Israeli state simply by not being Jewish. As the Palestinian population expands, the threat expands with it. And so Zionist Jews are compelled to perform a periodic culling of the population, in order to maintain their majority.

I was very pleased to see the ICC interested in the arrests of both Netanyahu and Hamas leadership

permalink

I wonder how much of Biden’s outrage is because of support for Bibi, and how much of it is because the ICC could start issuing warrant for US presidents?

permalink

The US already has a law in place that stipulates that the president can use all means necessary, including military action, to release any US personnel that have been arrested by the ICC.

They aren’t afraid that the ICC is going to issue a warrant for a US president. Because they can just park their aircraft carriers in the North Sea near The Hague beach and invade Dutch airspace. And what is the EU going to do in that case? US already has troops and equipment on EU soil.

permalink

While they can do so, that’s a very effective way to permanently destroy relations between the EU and the US. The US will be unable to effectively project power onto both Europe and the Middle East once the military bases in Europe are closed down in the aftermath. It will be the US’s biggest loss in soft power since its founding.

ICC arrest warrants are not about actually detaining people, Bibi won’t end up in the Hague either.

The point is isolation. If the US president would get convicted, they wouldn’t be able to attend a G7 summit anymore for example.

I’m not sure who this propaganda is supposed to appeal towards? The dividing lines between the old Cold War states have sharpened considerably. Biden and Putin can’t really do anything wrong, from within their own camps. Its always “Whataboutism” and “You people don’t understand what’s at stake” to dismiss the incoherent contradiction of their respective policies.

Biden gave ammo to the Russian propaganda when he questioned the legitimacy of the ICC arrest warrants and implicitly accused them of playing politics - which is basically Putin’s line. I wouldn’t be surprised if this ends up with Putin being allowed to travel freely again.
