I think by brand recognition they don’t necessary mean “mastodon is a known brand so it’ll be fine”, rather that mastodon is a big enough brand for their voice to be heard… I imagine that it’ll end up being like mozilla and google with the w3c, where even if one is far more open and collects less data than the other while also having fewer users, they still agree to and collaborate to create the same standards, and users can disable these

That just gives meta more reasons to make extensions to activitypub, or a fork, without consulting others first as nobody’s even working with them…

If they’re federating then at least they have some interest in keeping things compatible

I use spaces, but tabs use fewer characters, are easier to edit and allow for people to have custom indentation levels…

People react differently to all substances, the real test for addiction is if you can stop doing it for say, 3 weeks in a row, not how often you do it… You can do it once a month and still be addicted but as long as you can stop for 3-4x longer than you usually would, you’re probably not
