Swift’s flights were responsible for a thousand times more C02e than an average EU citizen. One has a comma, the other has a dot

There was a super interesting situation when the first Malaysian cosmonaut went to the ISS. He wasn’t the first Muslim in space, but he was apparently the first to ask for guidance about things like how to correctly conduct his daily prayers and how to observe Ramadan’s fasting. The council he spoke to made a booklet called A Guideline of Performing Ibadah at the International Space Station (ISS), which includes the delightful checklist for how to orient yourself for daily prayers: towards the kaaba if you can, if not then the kaaba’s projection, if not that then just the Earth in general, and if even that isn’t practical then wherever.

I recently bought the 2021 remaster of a strategy game from 2004 and it was almost 50 GB. Add another 12 GB if for some reason you want the 4k textures on models from 2004. This game used to come on a CD.

We do probably want both. Even if we end plastic production completely tomorrow, we need to work out a way to clean up all the plastic we’ve already dumped all over the world

Shout out to that time in 1998 when the world-leading astrophysicists at CSIRO solved the 17-year-old mystery of the signals they were picking up and couldn’t explain. Turns out they were caused by the office microwave whenever it was opened before it was finished.

To be honest even if it was a power plant… they’re already in the business of generating power. If generating more clean power in the same space is an option, that sounds great

Actual explanation: these squid are transparent normally, but can turn on a dark pigmentation when that is a more effective camouflage. Being transparent works quite well most of the time, but if the predator has its own light source (as several deep-sea predators do) then their transparent state becomes a problem, because it’s relatively reflective compared to the water around them. In this situation, turning on the dark pigment helps them blend in with the dark water better.
