Here’s one that came to mind: Heiankyo Alien for the Gameboy DMG. I remember playing this a ton in the car as a kid. It’s a game where you have to dig holes for aliens to fall in and bury them to kill them.

There are a couple of really cool Metroid Zero Mission rom hacks called Metroid Spooky mission and Metroid Spooky Mission 2 which are high quality and fun to play on the GBA.
I also picked up the Resident Evil bundle earlier this year that I should fire up. RE4 is my jam.

I’m at the final boss of Super Mario RPG and can vouch for it being really fun. While it’s not as epic in scale and story as Chrono Trigger, it’s got good humorous writing, good pacing, and the difficulty is just right imo.
I also really like that if you lose a battle, the game resets you at your last save point and carries over any exp you gained, making grinding way less tedious.
