It’s been going for years now. We just don’t want to move away because, frankly, there’s little viable alternatives.
Living is a disease at this point.
I’m still baffled that some people can argue “why are you so worried?” about this. We have twenty years of history of shit hitting the fan, how much more do you need to not trust Facebook/Meta?
Better question is what are you doing to see so much hentai. I have NSFW on, and regularly browse “all” and porn in general remains a very rare occurence.
Because they want to “protect” you from “yourself”. Imagine, you could scrape your own data that you can already see.
I’d be really worried if the security of server operation for my bank depended on the client-side. But playing devils advocate, some people will most likely point out that a root exploit on a phone may be unintentional and used to spy on people, to which I answer:
- show me a big scary box where I can “accept the risk” and move on
- keep in mind that if I am root on my phone, I can hide the fact that I am root on my phone and you’ll be none the wiser
Currently, option 2 is in effect, sadly.
There’s a ton of great small scale things we can do with machine learning, and even LLM.
Unfortunately, it seems the main usages will be crushing people down even more.
As an outsider I’m always amazed at that “land of the free” that is insistent on censoring stuff, and “home of the brave” that will run through the mud someone standing for freedom and having principles.
From the outside it really seems that a large amount of the USA administration is actively working against the USA’s interests. Which sounds weird.
I’m sure the evil intolerant mechanic guy wanted to remove them for some fake, made-up reasons like “you’re gonna die if you ride with these”.
