The court is the highest UN body for hearing disputes between states. Its rulings are final and binding but have been ignored in the past, reports Reuters. The court has no enforcement powers.
It’s less of a court in the traditional sense, and more of an indicator and shaper of international sentiment.
Still useless though. International sentiment was pretty clear even before this
Was it? Look at Germany or the rest of the EU for example. It would make it much easier to argue for divestments and sanctions in parliaments if there was an active warrant against Bibi.
Yeah, it’s definitely not going to be enforced but it’s still breaking the Genocide Convention. It basically says that in the future Israel might not comply with international treaties if it doesn’t feel like it. This makes them hard to work with as a country.
Then there is also bilateral actions such as sanctions as a tool to put pressure.
The pro-genociders aren’t gonna like this.
This is great news! Now let’s act to stop genocide. I’m hoping…
#BDS
I’m sure this will stop them. Israel has nothing but contempt respect for international law.
Or else what?
Or else any last semblance of the rules-based international order is out the window.
Eh. The ICJ has zero enforcement authority, and is often very selectively ignored by tons of countries.
The result of this will be:
Israel: no.
ICJ:
Note that this is not a defense of Israel or an endorsement of the ongoing genocide they’re perpetrating. It’s merely a statement on how the ICJ is effectively toothless.
Or else we will be very very angry with you, and we will write you a letter telling you how angry we are.

Genocide Joe will be continued to be voted for and praised by Americans who call themselves “progressive”, “liberal” or believe they have any “values” while politically approving of genocide.
The sad truth is that the court has no means to enforce its rulings. It relies on governments to be lawful and responsible and on people to demand that of their governments. However the majority of people in countries that still support the genocide are either themselves pro genocide or believe that genocide is in any way acceptable.
Future generations will look at our generation and consider us in the same category as the German Nazis, their supporters and those ignorant of their crimes.
Progressives clearly are not happy with Biden about his Israel stance so claiming progressives support genocide is clearly rage bait nonsense. He is absolutely not doing a good job reining Israel in, but what exactly do you expect progressives to do? Vote for Trump? Not vote at all? Either way the result would be much worse genocide.
I hate Biden and hate that I have to vote for him. Future generations are definitely going to hate us.
That’s our burden for failing to put pressure on primarying him - we should do better next time.
At this point voting for Biden is, however, the only responsible action.
Genocide Joe will be continued to be voted for
No, that’s actually the main problem other than the genocide itself: his stubborn insistence on actively contributing to the genocide is making it more and more likely that he’s going to lose to a fascist who’ll continue doing that AND be worse about just about everything else.
Maybe it’s time to stop “just following orders.”
Oh careful. I’ve been having comments removed for suggesting we stop voting for Democrats.
If you’re American, can I ask who you plan to vote for instead? The way I see it, there isn’t really a preferable option.
Well there’s the guy with brain rot… or the guy with literal brain rot from a worm. They’re both obviously better for Palestinians. /s
Did you consider doing more than just voting? Like pushing the democrats to stop supporting genocide?
